How to Sell Bandwidth

Bandwidth is what you avail from your service provider based on the Philippines and sends the bill via email using an ISP billing software. People who are always online are on the lookout for a faster connection with bigger bandwidth. Deny it all you want, almost all of us want a lion share of how much our service providers could offer us. ISPs could win our hearts based on three factors: cost, speed, and bandwidth. The moment an ISP conquered these three, you will not dare look for another service provider anymore.

Are you aware that everyday ISPs need to fight tooth and nail with each other just to woo potential customers and retain their current subscribers? On the bright side though, an Internet Service Provider is a lucrative business because the need for internet connectivity will never wither. The tricky part is how to start up one. In case you’re curious, we provide some tips on how to start an ISP business below:

Location
This is the focal point when starting a business. Scout an area with limited access to the Internet or none at all. Why? Because this is where an ISP is needed most and you’re the first one offering such service. Believe it or not, only 42.3% of the world’s population has access to the Internet as of June 30, 2014 according to internetworldstats.com.

The data center should be in a high-rise building
This is important because your equipment must be set up in an elevated area without any obstructions so your customers will have a smooth internet connection. Make sure the equipment is weather- and fireproof as well and cooled 24/7 by powerful HVAC units.

Choose the right infrastructure
What is best suited on your area, fiber-optics or wireless? It depends on the population and the topography of the place, so better choose wisely. You may mix both for greater customer satisfaction.

Hire a reliable technical support staff
This is one of the key aspects of your business to promote effective customer retention. Employ a knowledgeable, helpful and considerate staff committed to meet the demands of your customers.

Be ready to be bullied by major players
ISPs are territorial in nature and it takes guts to compete with the current “lord” in that particular area. Expect the incumbent or the current service provider to file expensive lawsuits just to kick you out. Get creative on your marketing strategies as well without compromising the quality of your service.

Save up bundles of cash
This is to pay government permits, top grade network equipment, construction to snake around your cables, and hefty lawyer fees with regards the previous entry.

Find the best billing software for ISP
As your business grows, it would be difficult to keep track of the payments and who among your customers have late dues. Disregard this and you will end up being a charitable institution.(Check http://www.visp.net/isp-billing-software for Isp Billing Software)

Start small
This is relative to the initial number of clients you’re willing to cater. Take this analogy as an example: your current bandwidth is a size of a one whole pizza which is ideally for 8 persons only. If you tried selling it to 16 persons, can it satisfy their hunger?

There is no magic formula in any business endeavor and as a newbie you’re most likely be the “learn from your mistakes” type. Even so, throughout the trial-and-error stage your perseverance will pay off.

Online Scams to Avoid

ISP billing System Software

You're using a super secured ISP billing system on your desktop office then out of habit you open your company email to check if there are new messages from one of your Philippine branches. Upon browsing, you've spotted a legit looking email that requires your immediate response. This email tells you to wire transfer a large amount of money and it was a directive from your CEO – yup, the CEO himself. What will you do, after all, it is part of your job description, right?(See Isp billing System by Visp for more information)

Unfortunately, this is one of the notorious phishing or email scams out there. The FBI found out starting October 2013 companies in every U.S. state and 45 countries lost more or less $215 M to such crimes. This is disheartening because of just a fraudulent email their business lost thousands or millions of dollars. This is only one of the online scams existing today and the FBI has a 50+ list to date. Through your busy working schedule, do you still have the time to identify each one of them?
We've pick out at least five of what seems an innocent looking but with serious and irreversible implications:

Gameover Malware
Sounds like a computer video game but it specifically targets the victim's personal data. Again, via email it will require you to click a link to fix your compromised account; however, this link downloads and installs the malware that will scour your PC to gather your credit card information or confidential data about your company.

Email Account Hacking
Once you forgot the password of your email account you could easily ask for a reset. But a hacked email account is not retrievable and shouldn't be ignored. We use email accounts to register to various social media websites and to conduct financial dealings. Did you know that a hacker could simply sell your email account to anyone who wants an access to your Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, Dropbox, or bank account?

Vishing
Two accounts are used in this type of scam, a VoIP (thus, the term “vishing”) account and – for the fourth time – an email account. You will be notified via email that they needed to fix something in your account or claim a prize. Then followed by an instruction to contact them using your VoIP account. The moment the unsuspecting victim takes the bait, the same tango, they will ask for his/her credit card or bank account information.

Ransomware
Virtually, your laptop or smartphone could be ransomed. Via email, they will send a link or an attachment you need to open. This link activates the ransomware that locks your device and encrypts your data in it. It pops up a message accuses you that you've accessed a pornography site, by none other than the “FBI”. They will demand a payment to undo this action.

Fraud Recovery Scam
The target of this fraudsters are those who were victims by scams and promised that they will help them return their stolen money. Sadly out of desperation, many fall in to this kind of trap where they will demand payment or fees. To the point that even their bank account details will be asked so they could transfer the “recovered” money. However, the bogus lawyer all did was to siphon the money in the bank. Quite a hard hit, right?

Will this unfair treatment end? Unfortunately, no, but as long as we stay vigilant, we could keep this fraudsters at bay. Never give away personal information such as credit card and bank account details. Even, your precious email address.

When Earth Time and Atomic Time Collide

ISP Billing Software by www.visp.net

A radius manager billing system used by accountants belongs to the Cloud Computing family. So, most likely the users are always connected online and the said software is only accessible online. It is sometimes called the “cloud” that simply refers to any I.T. resources accessed via the Internet. As we all know, the classic symbol of the Internet is an image of a cloud. There should be no room for downtime or idle times when it comes to cloud services, particularly in a time-sensitive radius billing software. Any disruptions may affect the whole business operation.

Many companies are still apprehensive using this type of infrastructure because of the data ownership and security issues overshadowing it. This is not always the case because sometimes the reason behind this is not due to a technical or human error. It is an unstoppable and natural cause that all the Netizens will experience. When we say it is natural, it involves the way the Earth rotates. Yup, in rare occurrences the relation of astronomical entities enters the picture and messes the Earth's time.

This 2015, the day will be a second longer as the Earth spins slower. This was confirmed by the time custodians at Paris Observatory in France that on June 30 of this year will have to add another second in our time pieces worldwide. This process is called the leap second. This means the 86, 400 seconds in a day will be 86, 401. It is just an extra second, right? It is only a mere arithmetic problem. However, network servers doesn't work that way as it could cause a domino effect all throughout the normal sequence and order of things.

Early man's first and original basis of time is the rotation of the Earth on its axis. But when Dr. Norman Ramsey led the research of the atomic clock in 1950s, they realized time was not accurate as we deemed it to be. The accuracy of Earth time is rattled by the moon's gravitational pull thus making its rotation a bit slower. While the atomic clock is a hundred times more correct, and it is from a caesium-133 atom. That is why UTC (Universal Time Coordinated), the worldwide standard for time, aligns with atomic time.

Although, atomic time is accurate, it should somehow match the pace of Earth time. Computers and other gadgets were pre-programmed to get its time from NTP servers and some of these are made from Linux. Linux servers based their time on UTC. To be able to sync Earth time and atomic time, all Linux servers must process the leap second workaround. As of November 2014, the market share of Linux worldwide is about 97 per cent. How many of those are NTP servers needed to be fixed?

What would happen if no adjustments were made? It will cause the system or the CPU to get worked up and overload. Since the system doesn't recognize the additional second, it may consider it as an error. Just like what happened on Qantas Airways last 2012 where flights were delayed due to system crash. It did not spared FourSquare, LinkedIn, and Reddit. It will be the 26th leap second this year. We can't speculate or guess yet what will happen once the extra second is added but we could only hope that it will not be as chaotic as what transpired during the 2012 leap second.
